Moses the NOOBtist’s first-ever wheel-thrown piece.

Chef Moses, a Korean cuisine chef, first connected with ceramic artist Jung Hong through a collaboration in which he crafted his own 70-liter handmade soy sauce jar. That experience became a turning point, inspiring him to work with clay through his own hands. Following the pilot program, he became our very first NOOBtist.

His debut work, OO, is distinguished by a steeply sloping entrance that evokes the depth of a cavern, drawing the viewer inward. The natural folds around the neck, formed by its uneven thickness, lend the piece a quiet vitality. Its base expands outward and downward like a volcano, grounding the form while conveying a sense of dynamic movement.

The final piece in the series—crafted after ten rounds of practice and perseverance—is a small bowl made just for the NOOBtist herself, a proud “small eater.” While it may seem too tiny to be called a rice bowl, the size is just right for its intended purpose. Finished in her favorite color, the bowl features a rich purple tone created by mixing purple pigment with white porcelain. The vivid surface is beautifully complemented by delicate white speckles, a result of using grogged porcelain. Despite her own claim of having no talent for working with her hands, Noobtist Jihyun ended up creating a surprisingly refined and high-quality piece. It now resides in the NOOBtist’s own collection, and its not-for-sale status is almost a pity.
